A rising water bill with no visible cause usually means a leak under the slab or behind a wall. Acoustic and pressure equipment narrows the location down before anything gets opened up.

The goal is the smallest possible repair opening. Locating precisely first is what keeps a slab leak from turning into a demolished floor.

Signs of a hidden leak

• A water bill that has climbed while nothing about your use has changed.
• A damp patch, a spreading stain, or a warm spot on a floor.
• Running water you can hear with every tap and appliance off.
• Pressure that has dropped gradually rather than all at once.
• A musty smell, or mould that keeps coming back in one place.

What happens when we come out

1. Isolate it first: supply or waste, and which section of the run.
2. Acoustic and pressure equipment narrow it down before anything is opened.
3. We show you where we think it is, and say how sure we are.
4. We open the smallest access the repair will allow.
5. Repair or re-run the section, then re-pressurise and re-test before closing up.

Questions about leak detection

Can you find it without breaking anything?

Locating it, yes. Repairing it, no — at some point the pipe has to be reached. The whole point of locating carefully first is that the opening ends up the size of a patch instead of a room.

The meter still creeps with everything turned off. Is that a leak?

Almost always. If the meter moves with the whole property shut off, water is going somewhere. It is worth acting on quickly — a slow leak under a slab or behind a wall does its damage long before it shows on the surface.

Do you replace whole runs of pipe?

Yes. Where a run has already failed in more than one place, replacing the section is usually cheaper than chasing it failure by failure.
